- Cash declaration: You must declare if carrying €10,000 or more (or equivalent in other currencies) when entering or leaving Hungary.
- Goods to declare: Alcohol, tobacco, electronics, jewelry, cultural items, and other restricted products. Some goods like narcotics and counterfeit items are prohibited.
- Duty-free allowances: Travelers from the EU have generous limits, while non-EU visitors face stricter caps (e.g., 200 cigarettes, 1 liter of spirits).
- Customs duties: If you exceed duty-free limits, customs duties and VAT apply based on EU rates.
Key border crossings include Röszke (Serbia), Hegyeshalom (Austria), and Záhony (Ukraine).

| Documents Required for Entry | All travelers must present a valid international passport. Citizens of the EU/EEA and Switzerland may enter Hungary using a valid national ID card. Hungarian citizens must carry a valid Hungarian ID card or passport when traveling abroad and returning. Visa Requirements for Hungary 2025: EU/EEA and Swiss citizens: No visa required. Citizens of countries with visa-free access to the Schengen Area (e.g., USA, Canada, Australia, Japan): No visa required for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Other nationalities (e.g., India, China, Nigeria): Must obtain a Hungarian short-stay Schengen visa (Type C) before travel. |

Prescription Medications: -For narcotic drugs needed for up to 3 days, an international certificate from your doctor is sufficient. -For narcotic drugs required for 3 to 90 days, an official certificate from the competent authority in your country of origin is necessary. -For psychotropic substances needed for 30 to 90 days, an official certificate from the competent authority in your country of origin is required. -If the quantity of psychotropic substances does not exceed the amount needed for 30 days, an international certificate from your doctor is sufficient. |

Customs Declarations: All items of artistic and historical value must be declared at customs upon entry into Hungary. |

The result must show a minimum of 0.5 IU/ml of rabies antibodies. Health Documentation An EU Health Certificate, endorsed by the Hungarian authorities, is required. The certificate must detail the pet’s microchip number, rabies vaccination, and, if applicable, the rabies antibody titer test. Non-Commercial Export Applies to pets traveling with their owner or an authorized person. The number of pets must not exceed five. The purpose must not be for sale, transfer of ownership, or adoption. Commercial Export For exporting more than five pets or for commercial purposes, additional requirements apply. |
